[Detailed Itinerary]
Day 1: Hobart > Salamanca > Mt. Wellington > Richmond. After being picked up at the airport, head to Salamanca Place, which every Saturday features a wide selection of high-quality artwork, fresh produce, and street performers. Afterward, ascend Mt. Wellington—the highest peak in the Southern Hemisphere at 1,270 meters—to gaze toward Antarctica and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of Hobart. Visit Australia’s oldest brewery (exterior view), Cascade Brewery, where you’ll have the opportunity to sample a variety of Australian beers. The tour concludes in the charming town of Richmond, home to Australia’s oldest stone bridge and oldest Catholic church. As Australia’s best-preserved historic town, it offers a journey back in time 180 years to a nostalgic world straight out of last night’s dreams. Be sure to visit the town’s candy shop and the Instagram-famous bakery to sample the renowned scallop pie.
Day 2: Bruny Island Gourmet Day Trip. After breakfast, drive south through downtown Hobart to the ferry terminal. Take the ferry for 20 minutes to Bruny Island. Drive along the coastline, winding through the forest to the famous “The Neck”—a narrow path that connects the southern and northern parts of Bruny Island like a thin thread, with the endless ocean stretching out on both sides. This area is also a nesting ground for penguins. After lunch, head to the island’s oyster farm to taste Tasmania’s most delicious oysters* (at your own expense). Explore the bustling Adventure Bay on Bruny Island and look for the white kangaroos, unique to Bruny Island. Hidden among the island’s hills and forests are several small shops where you can enjoy cheese, sample seafood, and even have a glass of whiskey.
Day 3: Tasman Peninsula > Port Arthur > The Four Great Wonders. After breakfast, head to the Port Arthur Prison Ruins* on the Tasman Peninsula (at your own expense) Port Arthur* (at your own expense), a site where convicts were exiled during the colonial era and now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you can see what life was like for the tens of thousands of British convicts exiled here in the 19th century. The largest prison in the Southern Hemisphere, nestled against the mountains and overlooking the sea, features no walls and cells with ocean views—it resembles a beautiful landscape painting and will undoubtedly shatter your preconceived notions of what a prison looks like. On the way back, we’ll also visit famous local attractions such as the Blow Hole, Tasman Arch, Tessellated Pavement, and Devil’s Kitchen.
Day 4: Hobart > Swansea > Wineglass Bay, In 1999, the American travel magazine *Outside* voted Wineglass Bay one of the world’s top 10 beaches. However, nestled among the mountains, Wineglass Bay’s beauty is not immediately apparent; visitors must climb to a higher vantage point and put in some effort before they can fully appreciate its splendor. Along the way, stop in the picturesque coastal town of Swansea to enjoy panoramic views of Tasmania’s east coast from various angles.
Day 5: Hobart > Sheffield > Cradle Mountain. After breakfast, head to the town of murals – Sheffield: Nestled at the foot of Mount Roland, this town is covered in murals thanks to its passionate artists and professional painters—there’s hardly a single blank wall to be found. From ATMs and record shops to cafes and restaurants, even abandoned houses are adorned with murals, creating a romantic and dreamlike atmosphere! Next, head to Cradle Mountain, home to ancient rainforests and diverse ecosystems, and take a short hike along Dove Lake. Along the way, you’ll encounter Cradle Mountain’s ancient vegetation—including pandanus trees and water oak—and may even come across the endearing wombats. Moreover, the weather here is notoriously changeable, often offering the amazing spectacle of experiencing all four seasons in a single day—a sight that never fails to amaze.
Day 6: Launceston > Swiss Village > Cataract Gorge > Tamar Wetlands Park. After breakfast, take a stroll through the Swiss Village cultural resort. Head to Cataract Gorge to relax and unwind on the rolling grassy slopes. Colorful peacocks and wallabies may occasionally make an appearance. Take a ride on the Sky Ride* (at your own expense), the world’s longest single-span cable car. After lunch, head to Tamar Island Wetlands, a small island on the River Tamar that serves as an important bird sanctuary. On the island, you can observe a diverse array of birds in the lagoon and enjoy a peaceful moment. On the way back to Hobart, pass through the town of Ross, which served as the inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki’s *Kiki’s Delivery Service*. Why not stop by Ross Bakery—where Kiki worked—and pick up a fresh-baked loaf? (If departing from Launceston, the route does not pass through the town of Ross.)
